Bringing Back Boho-Chic:

History tends to repeat itself. As it goes, so does fashion. “Boho Chic” was most previously popular in the early 2000’s however, Boho Chic has been brought back with a vengeance, and there are many reasons to explain its surge.

First and most obviously, spring and summer fashion is always filled with a surplus of floral, straw hats, loose clothing, and long maxi dresses. This is simply due to the season itself; when it is hot outside, one wants to wear airy fabrics to both mirror the landscape and stay cool.

Interestingly, many fashion sites attribute the latest rise of boho to the craze of the limited series based on the Taylor Jenkins Reid bestselling novel, Daisy Jones and the Six. The novel and show revolves around a fictional band (reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac, with Daisy Jones being a Stevie Nicks equivalent) from the 1970s. The show focuses mostly on music, but its fashion has transcended into a universal success, mostly vesseled by actresses’ Riley Keogh and Suki Waterhouse. Both actresses have teamed up with famous boho brands, such as Free People, to promote their show.

You might be wondering, what is boho and what does it even mean? Boho is short for bohemian, which refers to nomadic people: those who are free-spirited, creativity, and carefree. Historically, bohemians lived in Paris’ Latin Quarter during the mid to late 1800s and have inspired many musicals, like RENT, Moulin Rouge, or La Bohème. Bohemianism brought a particular aesthetic to their fashion, which was later taken on by the American hippie movement in teh 70s. Close your eyes and you can picture it. Patchwork, quilting, long and flowing dresswear. They were also inspired by various Asian elements, like tye-die, elephant patterns, and harem pants. If you haven’t before, be sure to experiment with Boho-Chic this summer! You will be comfortable, stylish, and eminent of the icon Stevie Nicks herself.
