Coachella Cowgirl: Trends & What to Wear

Coachella is a yearly music and arts festival held in the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. It is a hub for culture; people come together to celebertae music, art, fashion, and food. Additionally, brands often invite influencers to promote their products or awareness at the festival through social media. Due to this, the festival is inadvertently an epicenter for opportunity and, more specifically, trendsetting. The festival is in the desert and must choose an airy, often whimsical ensemble to head the weather while also playing into their personality. This year, Coachella (Weekend 1) is April 12th through the 14th, and is hosting a handful of iconic music artists, including Lana Del Ray, Tyler the Creator, Doja Cat, J Balvin, Ice Spice, and Lil Uzi Vert.

When it comes to festival fashion, there are many elements to an outfit that is expected. For instance, head scars and bangles are a festival classic. Festival goers want to stay protected from the wind and sand in the desert. Headscarfs and bangles, while being fashionable, are a perfect armor to stay hidden from the harsh weather conditions. The headscarfs can also block out outside noise and allow the wearer to focus on the stage and ignore the chaos from the audience.

Another trend expected at Coachella this year are microshorts and miniskirts. This legwear does not require a tight waistline (in a way similar to fabric shorts or slip skirts). One can pair these with a chunky, trendy belt and stay cool amongst the brutal heat.

A timeless classic of festival wear are jean shorts, or “jorts.” Jean shorts are timeless, easy to wear, and vary in length. They are a constant comfort for festival goers because they always have been, and always will be, the perfect dancing pant.

Finally, it is critical to wear a comfortable shoe to Coachella. The music festival is tasking and requires lots of walking. Sneakers or comfortable boots are perfect for this event.

In the end, Coachella is about jamming out to music with your friends. But, whether it be Coachella or a different music festival you are attending this summer, be sure to plan your outfits in advance, think of the weather and location, and have fun!
