Minimalist instead of Maximalist:

This week, I wanted to write about minimalist fashion. What it is, its timelessness, how you can wear day-to-day, and how minimalist fashion can last for years.

Wearing minimalist fashion rejets the chaos of fast fashion and its fad trends. Rather, minimalist fashion can be defined as either having a minimal amount of clothes in your wardrobe, or only purchasing simple pieces that can be regarded as timeless. To use the infamous saying, these pieces value quality over quantity and, because of this, the clothes should feel right on your body and bring you joy. What is best is, with making you happy, you are also making the enviornemtn happy.

It is also no secret that fast fashion producces widespread water pollustion through the use of toxic and cheap dyes, a surplus of use of polyester and other fossil fuel-based materials, increased pressure on cotton farmers, and loads upon loads of textile waste. The list is endless. In tandem with the enviornmental qualms of fast fashion, the trend reflects society’s need to show off more with more “stuff,” even if it is cheap. Advertisers push consumers to fast fashion for a profit, but dismay any of its many negative effects.

Minimalism strips away the unnecessary and leaves you with the assets that make you truly happy or joyful. It is the antithesis of the consumerist model today, but achieves what every consumer wants: to look good. Rather than constalty or vigorously shopping, minimalist fashion values a “buy less, choose well, make it last” narrative. One that will last for years, and is made from good quality.

To achieve a minimalist wardrobe, try plain colored clothes, sweaters that match with jeans and/or black pants, and neutral shoes. Ultimately, there is no magic number to minimalist clothing but, with gratitude and thoughtfulness, minimalism will make you enjoy your closet through each season and through every trend.
