Need to Know: Spring & Summer Trends for 2024

The clocks have changed, and so have the seasons! Infamous spring cleaning is amongst us and, with that, often comes putting away winter closets and taking out spring clothes. It’s a new season and an opportunity to be a new you. With that being said, I wanted to share with you the upcoming trends for the spring and summer 2024 seasons. I want to draw from Paris streetwear I have seen, trends on social media, and Vogue articles written by media trend forecasting experts.

I will start with what is far from surprising—the timeless classics that you are thrilled to see at the front of your closet as the season begins. Trench coats, pencil skirts, sundresses, matching trouser suits, and good jeans have been—and always will be—in style. If you’re looking to ease into spring, start with a pair of blue jeans, your favorite white tank top, and comfortable ballet flats. Ultimately, you feel best dressed as yourself!

Another timeless spring trend is floral apparel. Whether it be light sweaters, dresses, skirts, or tops, flowers never go out of style. This past season, at Simone Rocha, pale pink roses were seen throughout her fashion show. Each floral embellishment seemed like a call for spring and warmth.

This season, “short shorts” are on the rise. Seen in countless luxury houses’ fashion shows, micro shorts are beginning to be seen everywhere. These shorts are a nod to ‘90s nostalgia and since the popularity of men’s cotton boxers on TikTok, short shorts have taken the trend one step further. These style shorts aim to lengtehen the leg and show them off. You can wear short shorts with a tucked-in loose jacket, silk scarves, belts, and high boots.

Loewe has been the groundbreaker for another spring trend for this season: high-rise trousers. These trousers were so high that they came with a built-in corset for the models to hold the trouser in place. These trousers are popular because they are immediete leg lengtheneers, elongating the body by multiple inches.

Finally, sporty chic is making its way to the center stage of spring trends, with Ralph Lauren guiding more upscale brands to the height of the style. Polo shirts, collars, and the country club aesthetic are back. As Vogue says, “if Mrs. Prada says the polo shirt feels right again, who are we to disagree?”

All in all, have fun. Spring is a time of happiness, where the sun is out and everyone begins to wind down. This season, try to have fashion reflect your mood and your surroundings!
